This blog is blogged by Craig Willse. I’m a Ph.D. student in the Sociology Program at the CUNY Graduate Center. Currently I am completing work on a dissertation about post-welfare state governance of homeless populations in the U.S. My work draws from political sociology, political economy, and science studies, with a contemporary social theory bent.
I’m also a Technology Fellow of CUNY’s Macaulay Honors College, where I help students and faculty develop pedagogical tech projects, like wikis, blogs, digital movies, and podcasts. You can read about this and other endless details of my academic career over at my webpage: cwillse.net.
Oh, the title of this blog. Well, first off, if you know me, it’s funny. Also, it’s a mash-up of “the skinny,” meaning gossip, and “Skinny Malinky,” the name of the hero in one of my favorite childhood books, The War Between the Pitiful Teachers and the Splendid Kids. If that doesn’t describe graduate school, I don’t know what does.
